1x1 Guru: Learn multiplication tables with an innovative method

What Makes a Successful Math Class?

Math is a necessary skill for students in many careers, but it can be challenging to stay

motivated when the math material seems endless. One way to make the process more

enjoyable and less daunting is to use innovative technology and mental imagery together.

Here's how I did it:

1. Use digital tools to create engaging and interactive math lessons. Using online tools like

Khan Academy, which offers short, video-based lessons with explanations, has been proven

to be an effective way to keep students engaged. This way, they don't have to fumble

through long text documents or tedious worksheets on their own. Additionally, using digital

tools allows me to provide feedback and grading as quickly and easily as possible.

2. Use mental imagery techniques to help students visualize the concepts being taught.

For example, I often ask my students to think about how multiplication tables work on a

grid (e.g., 3x2=6). By doing this, they are forced to visualize the information in order to

retain it better. Additionally, I use mental imagery techniques throughout my lessons in

order to explain complex concepts in a more relatable way (e.g., thinking about adding

two consecutive integers).

Help SMART Technologies Support the Next Generation

of Learners!

If you're like most people, you probably learned multiplication tables in a traditional

way—by reciting the tables aloud. But what if you have dyslexia or another learning

disability? Or what if you just don't have time to learn the tables in a traditional way?

There's an easier way: using mental imagery.

Mental imagery is simply imagining something else while you're studying. For example,

if you need to learn multiplication tables, you might imagine a table with each row

and column numbered. Then, as you recite the tables, you can picture each number in

your mind. Mental image practice is proven to be more effective than traditional methods

for learning new information, and it's especially helpful for people with dyslexia or other

So how can SMART Technologies help support the next generation of learners? By

providing tools that make mental imagery easy and fun! SMART Technologies has

developed a variety of mental imagery tools, including an online game called Multiplication

The mania can help students learn multiplication tables faster and more efficiently.

In this blog post, I will conclude how I used innovative tech and mental imagery to learn multiplication tables.

First, I used Google Sheets to create flashcards for each table. Then, I used Mental Imagery

to rehearse the tables in my head.

Finally, I tested myself on the flashcards using Quizlet. Overall, I found this method to be more

effective than traditional methods of learning multiplication tables.
